Chocolate Protein Spread Recipe Tryouts

@aefitnessig 4-ingredient protein “Oreo” dirt

Ingredients

  • 100g Greek yogurt
  • 25g protein powder (I used MyProtein whey)
  • 8g chocolate pudding powder
  • 15g black cocoa powder
  • 2 Oreo cookies, crumbled
  • salt, sweetener to taste
Texture

The Review & Notes

  • I thought it was not bad, but taste-wise it could be improved — thought it was maybe a bit too tangy (too much Greek yogurt I believe)
  • Needs sweetener imo, by itself wasn’t the most tasty. (But it could also depend on the type of protein powder, he didn’t specify so I just used MyProtein chocolate whey which isn’t super saccharine sweet like some protein powders.)
  • Not the most volume as pudding (ie not low calorie) but not bad as a spread.
  • Makes ~125g of spread.
  • Would go well on Ridiculous Brownies I think! Or as a Swiss roll filling/frosting.

👉 Verdict: I’d prefer making the Lotus Biscoff spread instead.

I think it has potential though; if I were to make it again I’d probably just reduce the Greek yogurt and play around with the ratios.

The Review

Pros and cons:

  • ➕ V easy to make!
  • ➕ Good macros
  • ➖ Texture was powdery / grainy
  • ➖ Tastes alright, but not the most flavourful spread I’ve tried.

Thoughts:

  • Tastewise was pleasant enough but didn’t taste like Nutella. There wasn’t any hazelnut ><
  • I tried a version to add 15g of ground hazelnuts, but it didn’t rly help much either. Just a little bit.
  • Could be sweeter, so I added some sucralose and toffee flavdrops too.
  • Texture was ok, thick and spreadable.
  • Note: After adding the hazelnut and putting in the fridge overnight, it got a lot thicker kind of like mousse? Reminded me a bit of Ferraro rocher but the graininess was still a sticking point.

❇️ Overall—Alright, but not mindblowing. I like how convenient it is though. Good if you’re craving some chocolate spread whilst on a cut:)

Next time

  • Try using PEScience (so far it’s the finest protein I’ve tried that seems to dissolve quite well, so this could be a solution to the graininess).
  • Try to add some hazelnut extract.
  • Try using collagen (this dissolves really well too), or whey protein.
  • Try using a different flavour protein, maybe hazelnut?
